New and Improved: More Dining Options and New Day Lodge at Schuss Mountain Among Shanty Creek's Big Changes

Bellaire, MI – Over the past month at Shanty Creek Resorts, the staff has been busy transitioning from golf season to the winter season. But this season is a little different. Crews are also busy working on a number of "big changes" for the upcoming winter season.

Many of those projects involve the ski operations, both indoor and on-hill, including a new Day Lodge at Schuss Mountain along with several members of the Food & Beverage team making changes to the resorts dining outlets.

"We are delivering on our promise to expand the variety of our F&B offerings while always trying to improve service," says Andrew Reh, Vice President of resort operations and former executive chef for Shanty Creek. "We looked at what other resorts offered that we weren't, and then tackled our opportunities. As of this ski season, we will have full menu service, cafeteria service and BYO options."

The first step was opening its newest dining outlet, The River Bistro, located inside The Lodge at Cedar River. The ski-in/-out facility features inspired sandwiches, flatbread pizzas, and over 45 regional and international beers plus fresh squeezed fruit cocktails in a chic setting with classic pub inspired games like pool, foosball, and darts.

Ivan's will now be called Ivan's Café. The longtime après-ski venue for live entertainment is transforming from table service menu dining into a self-serve cafeteria with expanded offerings. Reh adds, "Guests have asked for more options like homemade soups and fresh salads, turkey wraps, and more... along with traditional "kids" items like chicken fingers and fries."

Not to worry, Ivan's will still rock the mountainside into the wee hours as the home for après-ski entertainment, while drink servers deliver soft drinks, hot cocoa, mixed spirits, and beers including Black Diamond, the custom brewed exclusive beer from Shanty Creek's Bellaire neighbor, Short's Brewing Company.

Complimenting the new dining experience at Ivan's is the new Day Lodge near the Yellow Chairlift at Schuss Mountain.

While not an entirely new building, the resort is repurposing its former Ski School and Ski Rental facility (both are moving operations to the resort's Cedar River village on the north side of Schuss). The Schuss Day Lodge will feature approximately 90 seasonal lockers, banquet seating and vending machines.

"A staple of ski areas across the country is a dedicated place for folks who bring picnic-style lunches, brown bags and crock pots," says Steve Kershner, Director of Snow Sports at Shanty Creek Resorts. "While we haven't had that, we will now."

Adding the Day Lodge will improve service at the resort's dining outlets, Ivan's Café and The River Bistro, to focus its efforts on its patrons.

"With The [River] Bistro for traditional table service, transforming Ivan's into a broader ski cafeteria became a real option. And with the new Schuss Day Lodge for guests who bring their own meals, we now offer something for everyone."
